Lonar is a town situated in Buldhana district of Maharashtra state. Lonar is famous for salt water lake created by an asteroid collision with earth impact during the Pleistocene Epoch. It is one of the four known, hyper-velocity, impact craters in basaltic rock on Earth. Lonar is also known for historical temples like Kamalja mata temple, Daityasudan temple, Motha maruti temple, Durga tekdi, Ganpati temple, Ram gaya and main mystery is Gomukh temple.
Lonar lake created by an asteroid collision with earth impact during the Pleistocene Epoch. The crater is 1.8 km in diameter and is about 137 m below the level of the crater rim. Due to evaporation, the lake is salty and contains large amount of minerals, sodium and potassium. Their are lots of temples near the lake where we can see the early Hindu architecture.
The temple got its name from Daityasudan avatar of Lord Vishnu, who killed the demon Lawnasour who resided nearby. The temple is situated at centre of the lonar town. Here also you will see the Hindu architecture.
Motha Maruti Temple
The temple has a statue of Lord Hanuman made of rock believed to be highly magnetic.The statue is 4 ft width and 9 ft 3 inch long emerged. After removing about 20 quintal layer of Sindoor the statue look so beautiful.
Durga tekdi is a place where, The temple of Maa Durga on a mountain surrounded by various types of trees. This place is situated about 1 Km away from the town. This is also one of the best place in Lonar.
This temple is present near the Lonar Lake. This temple is built by Yadava, before 1000 years ago. There is a natural source of water, but nobody exactly knows that, where is the water coming from, so this is the most mysterious thing about this temple. Local people use this water for bath and also for drinking.
